Doing a 'man's job' with the heels of my crampiron

Ankara, April 2016

Innovative thinkers, activists and young people came together on 11 March in Ankara to explore how a Planet 50-50 can be achieved by 2030 where gender equality and gender equality mainstreaming is not a dream anymore.

Talk for Gender Equality was organized in ATAUM Conference Hall, Ankara University on 11 March to celebrate the International Women’s Day with the partnership of UNDP, UN Women and Ankara University.

Speakers of ‘Talk for Gender Equality included Mert Fırat, Actor and Founder of ihtiyacharitasi.org; Doç. Dr. Lale Orta, Turkey’s first FIFA licensed female referee; Dr. Huriye Göncüoğlu, an Academician working with fisherwomen and Özdemir Hiçdurmaz, founder of ‘Fathers and Daughters’ initiative.

The event was devoted to these powerful speakers who are movers and makers; designers and do-ers; local problem-solvers and leaders in the path towards Planet 50-50 and who shared personal experiences, challenges, dreams and solutions for gender equality.

With the new global 2030 roadmap and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) approved by UN Member States on 25 September 2015, we took a look at how women are affected by each of the 17 SDGs, as well as how women and girls can — and will — be key to achieving each of these goals.

Therefore, the theme of the International Women’s Day for this year was “Planet 50-50 by 2030: Step It Up for Gender Equality” which reflected on how to accelerate the 2030 Agenda, building momentum for the effective implementation of the new Sustainable Development Goals.
