Project Competition on Innovative Solutions for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency in Southeast Anatolia Region was organized within the framework of “Utilization of Renewable Energy Resources and Increasing Energy Efficiency in Southeast Anatolia Region project. Project is being implemented by the Southeast Anatolia Regional Development Administration (GAP RDA) in cooperation with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
Through the competition it was planned to support the realization of affordable, innovative and easy solutions for renewable energy and energy efficiency.
“Project Competition on Innovative Solutions for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency in Southeast Anatolia Region” aimed to reach students at technical, vocational and common high schools and vocational schools in Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa, Kilis, Adıyaman, Diyarbakır, Mardin, Batman, Siirt, and Şırnak. 9 vocational schools and 43 high schools with 52 projects applied to the completion. Short-listed projects were displayed at Şanlıurfa GAP Agriculture Training Center on 16-17 May. Shortlisted projects were evaluated by the jury composed of representatives from university, NGO and governmental agencies through taking criteria such as innovative, applicability, intelligibility criteria into consideration. The award ceremony was realized in 17 May 2016.
The first winners of the competition are awarded with a trip abroad in the context of renewable energy applications while the second and third winners were awarded with domestic travel.

2016 applications for ‘Future is in Tourism, implemented with the partnership of Ministry of Culture and Tourism, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Anadolu Efes has started. The deadline for the application is 1 July 2016. Three projects with sustainable tourism ideas will be chosen and supported. The Model Factory Project aiming at establishment and operationalization of Applied SMEs Capability Center in Turkey is being implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Science Industry and Technology General Directorate of Productivity and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP Turkey). The model factories in Germany and Italy were visited between the dates of 4 and 7 May 2016 with participation of representatives from Ministry of Development, Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology, GAP Regional Development Administration, Ankara Chamber of Industry, Gaziantep Chamber of Industry and UNDP.
During the Model Factory visits in Germany and Italy, the participants interviewed factory managers, experts, instructors and model factory stakeholders, examined each Model Factory production line in detail and get information about experiential learning.
A model Factory is defined as a tool to disseminate principles of operational excellence by using experiential learning techniques.
In addition to improve enterprises’ productivity and competitiveness, Model Factory to be established also aims at providing long lasting competence building for employees through experimental learning techniques and combining theory and practice.
Target group of the Model Factory in Turkey will be SMEs in manufacturing industry.
After the completion of studies appropriate models for establishment will be identified and operationalization of Model Factory in Turkey at the end of the project will be targeted. The decision of the establishment the Model Factory, which is expected to be influential in terms of national productivity goals, will be made by the Ministry of Science Industry and Technology and Ministry of Development according to the outcomes of the project.
In the first phase of the training programme measuring equipment such as infrared camera, infrared thermometer, ultrasonic flow meter energy analyzer, multifunctional HVAC meter, flue gas analyzer, ultrasonic leak detector, tachometer, conductivity meter were procured to be transferred to the selected OIZs. Experts from the six selected OIZs were participated to trainings to learn operation, maintenance, calibration and storage of these equipment. The representatives from Kocaeli-Gebze OIZ, Bursa OIZ, İzmir-Kemalpaşa OIZ, Ankara Sincan OIZ, Gaziantep OIZ, and Denizli OIZ participated to the training which was held on 30-31 March and 1 April in Ankara. At the end of the training 6 measuring sets which was composed of 9 equipment was transferred to OIZs.
From now on, what is expected from the energy management units of the OIZs is to use these equipment for measuring and assessing the data, and for taking energy efficiency and energy management measures. Moreover, it is planned to give more trainings to OIZs on project development and financial analyze and provide various materials.
Improving Energy Efficiency in Industry Project is implemented by General Directorate of Renewable Energy (YEGM) together with UNDP and UNIDO and in cooperation with KOSGEB, TSE and TTGV.
The meeting was realized on 26 May 2016 with the participation of public institutions operating in İzmir and surrounding cities, universities, non-governmental organizations, private sector representatives and the Bar Association. The regional conferences organized under the scope of the project aims to increase the awareness of Ombudsman Institution by individuals and institutions. At the same time, it is believed that the meeting will be effective for bringing the cooperation between civil society organizations working in the area and Ombudsman Institution to the desired level.
The meeting that consisted of two parts, started with the opening speech of Chief Ombudsman M. Nihat Ömeroğlu and continued with the promotional film of Ombudsman Institution. “People oriented service and ombudsmanship in the processes and activities of the municipalities” was discussed with the participants in the second part of the meeting.
The Ombudsman Institution was established on 29 June 2012 for establishing effective compliant mechanism orf independent human rights mechanisms and functioning of the administration. In this context, Ombudsman Institution and UNDP initiated the “Project for Strengthening the Institutional Capacity of Ombudsman Institution” on March 2015 aiming to strengthen the operational and administrative capacity of the institution. The project aims to support the Ombudsman Institution through use of UNDP’s experience in the field of capacity development based on the comparative analysis case studies that are unique to different countries and international standards. The first project meeting that was held in İstanbul and second in İzmir, next meetings are planned to be organized in 5 additional regions.
“Mobile complaints vehicle” practice initiated by the Ombudsman Institution for promoting the regional conference organized under the partnership of UNDP came into life first in İzmir. The first stop of the “mobile complaints vehicle” was Konak Square that was created for reaching the citizens easier and communicating by taking the complaints in place. The complaints of the citizens were listened by the people who are informed by the specialist of the institutions at the stands that was established.
